Remember a post or two ago when I was whining about the Dove mini fiasco? About how I went maniacally through an entire box only to find one single mini that was chocolate inside?
You, no doubt, also recall that, pushed to the point of no return, with a lot of time on my hands, and an appalling minimum of shame, I called customer service. The young man in customer service kindly said he would look into the situation……………………………………………………………………..riiiight.
But he did send me a coupon for a free box of sweet treats, so I was pretty happy. Until I got to my local stores and discovered that none of them were carrying Dove Minis anymore…not a stinking one! What the hell Giant Eagle and Shop N Save? What’s worse is the only ones left were the larger Dove Bars with…yes…you guessed it…vanilla ice cream inside.
So, clearly either God is messing with me, or this is a lesson in Loving the One You’re With, as Stephen Stills taught us in 1970. I never liked the idea of that song, but now that I’m older and the crowd is thinning out, both in the Dove bar category and elsewhere, maybe it’s not such a bad idea.
Know what? The chocolate is so rich and yummy on these bars that the vanilla is actually good with it.
God, I hope I’m not just settling.

October 9, 2023 at 1:23 pmRegarding the song “Love the One You’re With” A) It depends who you are with B) It also depends on who you are not with C) It depends on how long since you’ve been with anybody and D) It depends on how much alcohol you have consumed or how much weed you’ve smoked. Also, Stephen Stills did this song when he wasn’t with Crosby and Nash – he did it by himself. Next time you are in Youngstown, go to Handel’s and get and extra large cup of chocolate pecan and you’ll forget all about Dove bars.

October 15, 2023 at 9:41 amOh Chas, chocolate pecan is my absolute favorite, and there is a Handel’s not far from where I now live! Yes, it is fabulous and I have succumbed to its lure at least once since moving here. I didn’t realize that the song was only by Stephen Stills (didn’t do my research) since Crosby Stills and Nash were such a force for such a long time. I should never rely on my memory! I will make that correction. Next time I’m checking with you!

October 6, 2023 at 1:45 pmYou’re settling. I recently installed an incorrect speedometer cable on an old car ’cause the correct one isn’t available. I settled. But I’ll still enjoy seeing the gauge move, however incorrectly. Enjoy those “incorrect” Doves. They’re still pretty tasty. 🙂

October 7, 2023 at 2:28 pmI am sure that’s true, but once you’ve had creamy chocolate enrobed in a dark Dove chocolate topping, it’s hard to go back to vanilla. However, thanks to our parents’ don’t waste anything attitude, I am coping quite nicely with the vanilla. (There’s only a half one left, so it wouldn’t be much for you to enjoy.) You’ve inspired me though. Maybe I will start making my own! How hard could it be?
